MEETINGS -  For 2009, instead of the typical meeting/presentation schedule, SB CAER is sponsoring an Industrial Emergency Response Team (IERT) training program. All types of businesses of all sizes are encouraged to participate. This is essentially a beginner to mid level course, so fits well even if a participant has had no previous training.

The program is modeled after the FEMA/Red Cross/LA Fire program developed a few years ago. We have changed it somewhat to address the concerns of business & industry, although it’s still very similar to the neighborhood-themed original.

The classes will be held on the third Wednesday of Feb – June, from 2-5 pm, at the SB Red Cross. A number of Instructors have agreed to teach, and represent 6-8 public and private organizations. The class costs $25 for CAER members, and $35 for non-members. This cost is to cover course materials, a backpack for participants to fill with emergency supplies, and various honorariums for the instructors and venues.

The last class will include a simulation, and while we’re still working on the location, we hope to hold it in a deserted or partially vacant building where we can create realistic disaster scenarios that may occur at a business. The participants will then get to practice what they’ve learned over the previous months.

Class size is limited to 20 persons to ensure that all participants receive significant one on one instruction. For more information...
